Tony Lyster - W H Smith Stall in the Museum

This prefabricated sectional building is in the Museum area of the Buffer Depot and is typical of the long and narrow platform newsagents that were once seen on so many stations. It is believed that very few have survived, but examples can be seen at Horsted Keynes on the Bluebell Railway, Kidderminster on the Severn Valley Railway, and at the East Anglian Railway Museum. Our example came from Chalfont and Latimer Station. Our former Curator used to buy his copy of the Railway Magazine every month on his way to school. This one also sold books, though purchasers were not allowed to thumb the samples before purchase. We now use it as a display stand and have glazed the front.
