Great Central Railway Brake Third No. 652

Number 652 is a brake third with seven compartments, designed by J G Robinson, Loco Engineer on the Great Central Railway 1900-02. He was then the first and last Chief Mechanical Engineer, 1902-22, when he was in charge of both locomotives and carriages & wagons. It was built at Dukinfield (Manchester) in 1916 to drawing 385, lot 5038. The carriage was renumbered by the LNER in 1924 to 5652, and withdrawn from departmental stock in 1981, with the number TDE320603. It is a very solid wooden bodied coach with match boarding. All 20 doors have been fully restored and the seats reupholstered in red. When completed it is planned to use it on passenger trains in the Down Yard at Quainton. This coach arrived at Quainton on 9 October 1997, having being brought at auction for £600 at Banbury on 22 July 1997. Reference: |
